What a lovely phone call

While my mind was on some grilled shrimp this evening (6-8 per pound, which means grotesquely oversized, but beautiful when marinated and grilled) the phone rang.  The warden (the senior lay officer) of the neighbouring parish for whom I have pastoral oversight (in other words, they haven't a rector and I offer support) called and said their parish had had a meeting and were contributing $1.00 per mile (or in other words, $500.00) to my own parish.  I had no idea people were so touched!

But in a more pedestrian vein, I bought earplugs and Vaseline today.  Essentials.  I will be spending a lot of time in what Martin Sheen (actor, The West Wing, The Way, Apocalypse Now) called "nothing less than homeless shelters in North America").
