Everybody asks me if I'm getting excited. Well I am, and maybe even a bit nervous. I'm not nervous or anxious about the trip, I'm nervous and anxious about having all my responsibilities taken care of before I leave! I'm sure that once I'm on the plane all the things I've forgotten about will come to mind.
Nevertheless, I keep waking up at 4 o'clock unable to get back to sleep because my mind is wandering some pathway in Spain, or looking at my to do list on my computer (that isn't going to come with me). But most things have now been finished. The kind wishes of people I know are still coming, and I have a sense that while this is my Camino, there are a lot of other people walking with me in spirit and in prayer.
As part of the parish pledge drive for this trek, I will be carrying a brick to leave at the iron cross (the Cruz de Ferro marks the highest point of the pilgrimage, about 2/3 of the way along). Thanks to the Shaw Brickplant, and Nova Scotia Crystal, my etched brick is now going to be part of my backpack, along with my prescriptions, toiletries, clothing, and sleeping bag!
And it's still just one more sleep!
