This is the first day that I have discovered that I am a hurting unit. The day started well enough, with a lovely walk out of Zubiri, across some fields, through some woods by river, and then a fairly steep uphill. For some reason my left foot started giving me problems--the bottom was fine, as I used paper tape and Vaseline this morning. But partway through the morning I got a surface rub on the top of my foot and some compression on the ends of my toes from the hills.
We had a lovely patio lunch in Trinidad de Arre then walked through the city to Pamplona. This was the first time we had walk-through large city. It was an interesting variation the road surface and sidewalks were well marked with the Camino shell and arrows, and it was interesting walking by stores. Large green space separates me from employee. You make your way through the great gates to Pamplona and walk along the walls, and into the medieval town.
Some of the most gracious hospitality of this trip was offered at our Albergue (including a foot check for me!) this afternoon. After we got settled in, had a two hour siesta, and sorted out a plan for the evening we went on a walkabout of this magnificent city.
We walked by the café Iruna, frequented by Hemingway in the 1920s, up to the bullring to see Hemingway's statue, and then for tapas/pintxos (the prefered Basque term) at a couple of restaurants, had a couple of drinks, and reveled in the was the city comes alive with young and old after dark.
